Last chance to see

This is Sirocco. He is a Kakapo- a flightless parrot.

I watched him on Last chance to see last night and was completely enchanted.

The indescribably wonderful Stephen Fry described Sircocco as looking old- fashioned and he's quite right (of course). He does look like he is from another time- a Victorian gentleman of a bird.

If you have missed this programme I can't recommend it more. These kinds of programmes are why I am glad to pay my licence fee.

You can be friends with Sirocco on Facebook and you can watch the programme on the bbc i-player.

I watched Last Chance to See last night, too, and also fell completely in love with Sirocco. What magnificent plumage! The Kakapo seemed to have such great characters, and let's not mention poor Mark's abused head... Funniest thing I have seen on TV for some time. It's the look on the Kakapo's face!

Hi Daily, I can't really describe it well but he is like something about of a book about extinct animals. There are very few of his kind left- hence it's our last chance to see him. It's heartbreaking really but it was also the funniest programme.

Hi Beyondthepale, thanks so much for stopping by. I'm really pleased to have found your blog. Yes the way Mark was being so polite about his head being shagged and scratched was hilarious, the whole thing had me nearly crying. Mark is himself also rather like a Victorian gentleman (in the nicest possible way), he and Sirocco make a good pair!

I was in stitches when he got frisky. And yes he does look like an old man. Love him and all kakapos.

Hi Top Bird- of course you should love him he's a bird! Oh it was one of the funniest things I've seen on TV for quite a while. I forget the guys name but he took it all very well.

Hi Pamela, if you can look him up you should. He has become a bit of a media sensation!

Hi Marie- the randyness is one of his defining features isn't it! I'm so glad I watched the show or I wouldn't know about the fabulous and frisky Kakapo!
